Florida has “opened up,” yet many Catholics are still asking themselves, “Should I go to Sunday Mass?” Without the pandemic, the answer is absolutely, “Go to Mass!” But the pandemic has made leaving the house riskier. Of course, if you or someone you regularly interact with is particularly vulnerable to COVID-19, you should refrain from attending Mass in person. You can opt to watch online (and your children are invited to use our Family Liturgy page), and you might consider praying the Liturgy of the Hours or the Rosary at home or in the church from 9-12 Mon-Fri when it is fairly empty. The questions below are for those of you who can attend Mass without a substantially elevated risk to health but are still hesitant.
- If you are in a good spiritual place and the desire is peaceful, you should be attending Mass in person.
- If you are in a not-so-good spiritual place and your conscience is pricking you, attending Mass in person will probably help. (Confession is every Saturday, too, from 10-12 and 2:45-3:45.)
- If the idea struck you from out of the blue, it might be from God. Is he calling you back?
- Are you practicing patience and taking precautions? Or are you making excuses?
- Is your fervor self-motivated and based in routine or favoritism, or are you genuinely desiring to draw closer to God?
Third Sunday of Lent
March 7, 2021
Jesus cleansed the Temple twice, the first time at the beginning of His public ministry, and the second time the day after Palm Sunday, at the end of His public ministry. Today's Gospel, from John chapter 2, is the story of the first cleansing.

Chant this hymn; lyrics are here:
Create in me a clean heart, oh God. Let me be like you in all my ways. Give me your strength, teach me your song, Shelter me in the shadow of your wings, For we are your righteousness. If we die to ourselves and live through your death, We shall be born again to be blessed in your love! Create in Me a Clean Heart Verses and music composed by John Michael Talbot and Terry Talbot (1980). Based on Psalm 51:10, Exodus 15:2, and Philippians 4:13. |

Prayers of the Faithful
The Prayers of the Faithful, or prayer intentions, are an important part of the Catholic Mass. Traditionally, there is a hierarchy to follow. The hierarchy is listed here; think of a good prayer for each category and mention your prayer intention now, before bedtime, or anytime you pray as a family!
1. Create a prayer for the whole Catholic Church throughout the world; this could be about clergy (the pope, bishops, priests, deacons), nuns, sisters, monks, lay leaders (people who lead different ministries), or the laity (regular people).
We pray to the Lord: ℟ Lord, hear our prayer.
2. Create a prayer for public authorities in the context of the salvation of the whole world. Think of government leaders, judges, lawyers, police, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), firefighters, members of the military, and so on.
We pray to the Lord: ℟ Lord, hear our prayer.
3. Create a prayer for people all over the world burdened by any kind of difficulty.
We pray to the Lord: ℟ Lord, hear our prayer.
4. Create a prayer for your local community; this could be people in your town or state, or even the people in your neighborhood or on your street. It could also be people at your school or at your parents' workplace, or people in extra-curricular activities you belong to. It could be people in your church, leaders of ministries you participate in like Young People's Choir or Altar Servers, or even your catechists and other kids in your Religious Education class.
We pray to the Lord: ℟ Lord, hear our prayer.
5. Create a prayer for your own special and personal intention; this one could be said out-loud or thought quietly in your head/whispered to God.
We pray to the Lord: ℟ Lord, hear our prayer.
