SCRIPTURE STUDIES

The Catholic Church gave us the Bible. It is the story of our family, told by the loving God Who created us. As you explore salvation history from its beginning in Genesis through the coming of Christ and the establishment of the Catholic Church, you will see how God's loving plan for humanity has unfolded, resulting in a greater love for God and a deeper appreciation for your faith.

This kind of faith formation for adults is an exploration of the Scriptures, their historical background and significance, inspirational base, and practical application for daily life. All are welcome. Check the
parish bulletin for details and times of upcoming studies.

The Diocesan "School of Christian Formation/La Escuela de Formación" Classes are offered here!
August 2019-April 2020
The United States Catholic Council of Bishops met in 1999 for the purpose of forming a pastoral plan that addresses adult faith formation because they found through dialogue with the laity a "widespread spiritual hunger" within society. In order to bring adult faith formation to the Diocese of Palm Beach, the Diocesan School of Christian Formation was started – first within the Hispanic community and later in the English speaking community. The school’s four goals are:
• To nourish and challenge Catholics with a deeper personal understanding of their faith tradition
• To enable participants to bring this experience to their families, friends, places of work and ministry
• To explore the Catholic tradition from our local context as a diverse Church with members of different cultural backgrounds and with varying ministerial needs
• To situate our experience of faith, church, and ministry in light of the teachings and documents of Vatican II

The School offers a series of classes within a 3-year program. Adults who wish to learn more about the rich tradition of their faith may study simply for enrichment, or they may earn certification:
Parish Catechists may earn Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Certification.
Teachers at Diocesan schools may earn Level 2 and 3 Certification.
Pastoral Ministers may earn the Agent of Evangelization Certification.

The 3-year program proceeds as follows:
Year One "Knowing Our Faith" courses: Introduction to the Bible, Old Testament, New Testament, Christology
Year Two "Celebrating Our Faith" courses:
Vatican II, Ecclesiology, Liturgy & Sacraments, Morality
Year Three "Living Our Faith" courses: History of the Church, Social Justice, Spirituality, Pastoral Ministry & Evangelization

If you want to know more about your faith, this is a great opportunity. Everyone is welcome to attend-- choose either the class taught in English or the class taught in Spanish! School of Christian Formation classes will be held on Thursdays at 7:00 pm in the Community Room inside Holy Family's Parish Hall. Registration is not necessary.

The Diocesan "School of Christian Formation/La Escuela de Formación" Classes are offered here!
March-April 2019                                                                                                                                                          COURSE IS COMPLETED

Dr. Jack Mitchell is now teaching History of the Church every Thursday night in the Parish Hall at 7:00pm. Learn about our Christian history and the origins of the Roman Catholic Church. The Roman Catholic Church was established by Christ when He gave direction to the Apostle Peter as the head of the church. This belief is based on Matthew 16:18, when Jesus Christ said to Peter: “And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it.”

A Walk through the Liturgy                                                                                                                                     COURSE IS COMPLETED
Tuesdays, Community Room, 9AM, 9/11/18 through 12/11/18

Be transformed through Bishop Barron’s insights on this most privileged and intimate encounter with our Lord Jesus Christ. See how the Mass brings us out of the fallen world and into the heavenly realm; how it resonates with a call from God and a response from his people, the Church; and most importantly, how we are intimately joined with the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus through the Holy Eucharist. This study of the Mass will help you understand how to fully, consciously, and actively participate in the source and summit of the Christian life. All are invited.

What is "Covenant"? Scripture Study & Examination of the Last Supper                                                   COURSE IS COMPLETED
2015, 2016, 2018
This one-day, two-hour study reviews one concept, but it is the concept that will help you more deeply understand several stories in the Bible and what Jesus's death and resurrection mean for us. At the end of these two hours, you will deeply comprehend the meaning of covenant, which will enable you to see how the Old Testament events of Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Moses, Jacob's Joseph, and David foreshadow the New Testament events of our Lord Jesus Christ. Even more, by gaining a deeper understanding of what it means to have covenant, you will understand the significance of Jesus saying, "I thirst" just before He died, and you will have a greater appreciation and understanding of the Mass' Eucharistic Prayer. Part of your learning experience includes an explanation of the Jewish Seder meal, the meal Jesus celebrated with His 12 Apostles, His Last Supper. This very popular and well attended study is offered once a year during Lent, one session for adults and another for teens in grades 7, 8 and 9. Holy Family's Knight Joe Prestianni researched, designed, and presents this dynamic presentation, and his fellow Knights of Columbus Council 12159 host the study in the Parish Hall. You will learn more than you expect in these two hours!

The Great Adventure Bible Study: the Book of Genesis through the Acts of the Apostles

2017-2018
The Bible is at the heart of our Catholic faith--and our relationship with God. It is the living Word of God, where our Father meets with us and lovingly speaks to us. Reading the Bible should bring us closer to Christ, but understanding it is not always easy. Many people tell us they have tried time and again to prayerfully read Scripture, but they get frustrated.

The Great Adventure Bible Study is designed so that anyone can make sense of the Bible and experience the life-changing power of God's concept that there is a story running through the seventy-three books of the Bible that ties all, of Scripture together and makes sense, not just of the Bible, but of our lives as well.

In this course, you will have the opportunity to learn more about the plan of God in our lives, who we are, why we are here, and what we were made for. It tells us that God is, that He loves us, and how He has acted through the ages so we can get from here to Him.

You are all invited into a transformative encounter with Jesus Christ! Our first class is on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at 9:00AM in the Community Room, located inside our Parish Hall. We will continue to meet in the Community Room on Tuesdays at 9 until the course ends on March 20, 2018.

                                                                                                                                                                                          COURSE IS COMPLETED
The Great Adventure Bible Study:

2015
We will study the Epistle of St. James with thought-provoking questions. You will also discover how the Catechism of the Catholic Church relates back to this Epistle.
