Specialized teen ministry: Donum Talenti

8/28/2019

"Donum Talenti" is an arts ministry for Catholic teens who are high-achieving in any of the performing or studio arts and who are highly committed to developing their God-given talents. Members study Scripture with the challenge of interpreting it in their chosen art form while collaborating on group projects and giving meaningful feedback to each other. Interested teens meeting these criteria from any Catholic parish in the Diocese of Palm Beach are invited to attend. While members do not have be parishioners at Holy Family, stewardship in the form using time and talent to provide meaningful arts experiences for Holy Family parishioners is expected.

For more information, please contact Mary Acevedo, Director of Religious Education, at 772-337-4313 and visit http://www.holyfamilyccpsl.com/donum-talenti.html

Theology of the Body Summer Programming

5/1/2019

Holy Family Office of Religious Education is collaborating with the Theology of the Body Ministry to offer a fresh experience this summer to kids ages 11-17. This program includes Theology of the Body, St. Pope John Paul II's landmark and revolutionary series of addresses, which has been reworked into a curriculum appropriate for older middle schoolers and all high schoolers. Kids will consider the question "Who am I?" and discover its answer-- each one's true identity, purpose, meaning of relationships, and effects of actions.

A Parent Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at 7PM in the Parish Hall. This meeting is for parents whose children will be attending this program. Parents who haven't yet decided and want more information should also attend this meeting.

Our 10-day program is offered weekdays from June 10-21 from 10:00-2:00. Answers to FAQ:
  • Children need to bring their own lunches each day.
  • Tuition for this program is included in parishioners' yearly Religious Education Program enrollment.
  • Non-parishioners are welcome to attend; their cost is $30.00 per family. We accept cash or checks made out to Holy Family Catholic Church.
  • Morning care (8am-program start time) and after care (2:00-5:00) is available to parishioners only at a rate of $10.00 per child per day.
  • There is no cost for materials and no book to buy.

Saint Pope John Paul II is well-known, respected, and loved by people of all ages, nationalities, and religious affiliations because of his honest bearing that exudes thoughtfulness and joy, holiness and piety, as seen in the photos included in the slideshow above. Before he was named a saint or chosen as a pope, Father Karol Wojtyla spent time with youth, teaching them and shepherding them on their spiritual journeys. Much of this time was spent outside doing something else simultaneously. He always aimed to make a connection first, whether it was between him and another age group, or his heritage and another culture. Inspired by this gentle approach to faith formation, we will supplement the structure of the Theology of the Body's curriculum with exploratory activities that allow participants to immediately personalize and put into practice the concepts covered in the chapter of the day. Our typical daily schedule will look like this:
9:45-10:00 = drop off ~~ parents must walk pre-teens and teens into the building
10:00-11:30 = Theology of the Body Middle School Edition DVD, workbook, discussion, activities from Teacher Manual ~~ one chapter a day
11:30-12:15 = Salsa instruction (dance), learning and practicing how to interact within a group of peers, how to treat members of the opposite sex, acceptable touching and body language
12:15-12:45 = lunch break
12:45-1:15 = Supplemental activities related to the theme of the day, opportunities to start practicing the concepts we've learned (examples include discovering "my" unique qualities, pinpointing my fashion style and learning to adapt it (if necessary) according to the concept of modesty, analyzing lyrics in light of love vs. using, how to read body language)
1:15-2:00 = Reflection, goal-setting, prayer
2:00 = pick up~~ parents must come into the building to pick up their kids
