ALTAR SERVERS
Altar Servers are silent witnesses to the mysteries of the Altar.
While the actions in the sanctuary can only be done by the priest alone, the Altar Server is doing something more than is just useful.
Their action in the liturgy draws people deeper into the mystical realities of the Sacrifice of Jesus.
Their purposeful activity helps people to enter into a reverent frame of mind for worship.

ADULTAltar Servers are very fortunate to have been chosen by God to serve during the celebration of the liturgy. Their role is very important as they are one of the closest persons to the Altar and the priest during Holy Mass and the administration of the Sacraments.
This ministry is open to adults who want to serve at daily Masses, Holy Day Masses, and funerals. Training is available for those interested. For more information about serving as an adults, call the Parish Office (335-2385). |
YOUTH
This ministry is open to boys and girls who have received their First Holy Communion. Altar servers are a very important ministry in the Church. It is a privilege to assist the priest at the Altar. If you understand that the Real Presence of Jesus the Christ begins at the moment of the consecration and have the desire to serve God, you are being called!
There is no reason to worry that you do not know what to do. If you attend Mass regularly, you have already seen a lot of the work that Altar Servers do-- they light the candles on the Sanctuary Floor before Mass and extinguish them after Mass, they double-check how the Eucharistic Ministers have prepared the Credence Table, and they carry the cross during the Procession, the Presentation of the Gifts, and the Recessional. They also help during special processions during Sinulog, Divine Mercy Sunday, Stations of the Cross during Lent, and other times. Potential, new, and experienced altar servers are invited to participate in the Altar Servers class offered by the Religious Education Program or in quarterly meetings to train. During the classes, you will learn vocabulary naming the objects you will work with, become aware of appropriate and inappropriate behavior while you are serving, review prayers that you should have memorized, and get to know the other Altar Servers. Altar servers and their parents/guardians must make a commitment to serve at a weekend Mass on a regular basis, and they arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of Mass to have time to pray, get dressed, and listen for any special instructions from the priest or deacon. MINISTRY LEADERSHIPAdults interacting with youth (ministry head and other volunteers) must complete the Protecting God's Children training program.
