Once again, we are asking our wonderful Faith Formation families to embrace the Mission that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ gave to us: to take care of each other, to love each other, and to serve each other.
We started our class today with a presentation by Director of Religious Education, Mrs. Acevedo, who proclaimed the Good News: Matthew 25:31-46. While standing, kids in grades three through seven listened to Jesus' Word, learning that we must serve each other if we want to live with God forever in the afterlife. Then Mrs. Pray, our guest speaker, told us about her ministry called Holiday Sneaker Project. She explained to us that a surprising number of children in St. Lucie County do not have sufficient quantity or quality of the basics to get dressed every day. We are talking about shoes, socks, and underwear. If you missed the presentation, you missed an eye-opening one. Here are some photos if you'd like to see the response to the project in past years. Students were then told about how we will help Mrs. Pray achieve her goals for serving some students who live in our Port St. Lucie neighborhoods. Specific instructions were given in written form; for kids who were absent, a summary text was sent. We hope that even the kids who were absent receive this information, understand it, and participate by going out shopping. We need them to help us meet our goals! We are collecting our gifts on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at the start of class. Kids are invited to come in on Saturday, October 28, from 10am-12pm, to help us sort and organize our gift bags. Students who wish to help should bring a drink with a screw-top lid as well as a snack or a light lunch. We will have some "down time" to chill and share fellowship before parents pick up. THANK YOU for your generous response to this Work of Mercy. INSTRUCTIONS FOR FAMILIES WHO WERE ABSENT: 1. Kids cheerfully do a chore that one of their caregivers or neighbors asks them to do, and they do it well. 2. Kids get paid $5 for their work. 3. Kids bring the $5 in on Wednesday 10/25 and put it in the pot so we can buy sneakers to give away. 4. This weekend, kids go shopping with their parents to buy the item that was texted to them. 5. Kids bring that item in on Wednesday 10/25 and put it in the bag in their classroom. 6. Come on Saturday 10/28 if you can to help us wrap up the present!
